Abstract
This work was preformed in order to study the Spanish Lidia livestock sector from social and economical points of view. The results of this paper allows defining the concept of "farmer type" as a 48 years-old man, with 2 children, who does not usually enjoy vacation and works, on average, 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. More than one half of the farms sell 'erales' and 'uteros', one third of the farms sell 'anojos' and almost 50% sell 'toros'. The main problems that the sector is facing are the lack of farmers' union, the progressive increase in costs, the reduction in the number of celebrations and shortage of skilled work force. Thus, farmers, despite being deeply identified with their activity (which has a traditional, familiar and vocational nature), expressed their uncertainty about the future.
