Abstract

During the nineties, the banana world trade and imports regulation in the EU common market organization has caused a trade conflict between UE and USA. The aim of this paper is analysing the conflict and the negotiation strategies of both parts in a game theory framework, specially from the perspective of relative power, reputation as negotiator and expectatives about future disputes; all of this in a context of economic sanctions threats. Conclusions emphasize the impossibility of reaching a trade agreement trough a negotiation process and the relevant role of WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body to solve the conflict
