Abstract

This paper is aimed at describing the analytic structure of models for adoption of technology innovations most used in the literature, and at empirically analysing the diffusion of the localised irrigation technology from 1975 to 2005. The emphasis is placed on applications for agriculture from the farm manager's point of view. With this purpose, the following models have been applied: Logistic, Gompertz, Exponential and Bass. Field data from one of the biggest irrigation communities in Spain have been used. when the data from this process is analyzed and estimated, it shows that the knowledge diffusion rate is twice that of adoption, and that adoption has reached its peak. The spread of this technology is fundamentally determined by the imitation effect and personal interactions.
