Abstract

The study investigates the economic value of water used by gold fields in Comunidad Calenciana, Murcia and Almeria. To achieve this goal, the findings of several studies analysing the economic impact of this sport are employed; the study also estimates average water consumption for each course. The regulatory aspect of water consumption of golf courses is also analysed. The study concludes that the economic impact of each golf course will vary significantly according to the degree of commercial orientation and its level of usage. Nevertheless, the economic value of water consumed in golf courses is on average higher than agricultural alternative uses in the area. In light of these results, some considerations are made about the Spanish legal framework of water used in golf courses.
