Abstract
The analysis tested was a constant and variable returns to scale model both under input-oriented and output-oriented approaches. There was only an output, i.e. milk production, and three inputs were considered relevant: area, number of cows and rest of cost. Results show an average efficiency of 78,2 per cent with a larger number of firms operating at increasing return to scale. An interesting outcome of the analysis is the existences of firms that were efficient technically but operating with an intensification that makes production cost over milk price.
