Rentabilidad Económica De Café Orgánico En Amatepec Y Temascaltepec Estado De México

Abstract

The global importance of coffee (Coffea arabica L.) generates the intention to evaluate the economic profitability of the production and commercialization of organic coffee in two municipalities in the south of the State of Mexico in a total area of 378.8 hectares, in the communities of San Miguel, El Veladero, Coahuilotes, La Goleta and Tlachichilpa in the municipality of Amatepec and San Andrés de los Gama, Real de Arriba and Tequesquipan, in the municipality of Temascaltepec, during the 2021-2022 cycle. Four financial indicators were used: the Net Present Value (NPV), the Internal Rate of Return (IRR), the Benefit/Cost (B/C) ratio and the Investment Recovery Period (IRP). The municipality of Amatepec obtained a production of 257 tons of organic coffee in an area of 338.20 hectares and the municipality of Temascaltepec a production of 45.10 tons in an area of 40.60 hectares. The average sales price was $250 per kilogram. In order to determine the economic profitability of the production and commercialization of organic coffee in the two study municipalities, a project formulation and evaluation methodology was used. Income for the first year was $2,948,832, NPV of $1,481,401, Benefit-Cost ratio of $1.12, IRR of 46% and a PRI of 3.1 years. In relation to the previous results, the production and commercialization of organic coffee in Amatepec and Temascaltepec, State of Mexico is a profitable economic activity and a good option of income for people engaged in organic coffee production
