Abstract

The aim of the article was to determine the role of spatial planning in preventing the expansion of industrial farms. The operation of large-scale farms is associated with many inconveniences that residents of areas adjacent to such facilities have to deal with, as well as with a negative impact on individual components of the environment. The aim of the study was to indicate the role of planning documents together with the guidelines contained therein and arrangements for preventing the expansion of industrial farms. Only carefully prepared planning documents are able to prevent spatial and social conflicts caused by the establishment of farms in inappropriate places, and can also contribute to reducing the inconvenience caused by areas of specialist animal production. The authorities of rural communes should strive to gradually prepare local plans, which are an effective solution in maintaining spatial order. This article is based on the author’s master’s thesis entitled “Development of guidelines for local plans for the Radzanów commune with detailed indications regarding the location of poultry farms”, awarded in the 3rd edition of the competition for the best master’s thesis in the field of rural development in the field of social sciences, organized by IRWiR PAN and EFRWP.
