Abstract

European society is rapidly developing its interests in environmental protection. This translates into changes in consumer attitudes. Conscious consumers, looking for good quality food, attach importance to the transparency of its production system and are interested in its origin. Organic farming and its products are one of the possible responses to emerging and dynamically developing consumer trends. In discussions on the future of organic farming, the issue of dedicated bio (eco) support for the sector is a frequent topic. Farms run using organic methods contribute to the production of environmental public goods on the one hand, and are, on the other hand, a place of production of high-quality food. It is becoming justified not only to analyze the dynamics of changes in the area of organic crops and the number of entities with an appropriate certificate, but above all the production potential of this sector. The authors of this text have developed a method that allows, in a relatively simple way and using a previously used tool (FADN - Farm Accountancy Data Network, Polish: System Zbierania i Wyzywawania Danych Rachunkowych z Gospodarstw Rolnych), to estimate the potential of organic production and its specialization in a given area.
