Continuity and change – one hundred years of development of the Polish countryside – a multidimensional scientific dialogue

Abstract

In 2018, a hundred years have passed since Poland regained its independence. The Institute of Rural Development and Agriculture of the Polish Academy of Sciences has attempted to prepare a comprehensive scientific synthesis of the evolution of the countryside and agriculture in Poland, its mechanisms, regularities and effects, analyzed in a long-term perspective. The basic areas of analysis were rural society, rural economy and space, and rural culture. The research results indicate several elements that connect "rural studies" of many scientific disciplines. The most important of them is the praise of interdisciplinarity, which allows for a broad perspective on the problems of the countryside and the people living there.
