Abstract

Over the period of 2005-2012 the situation of households with members aged 65 years and over in the EU has improved. The median of equivalent incomes of these households has been 26.7% higher than in 2005, but it still has been lower than the median of incomes of people below 65 (9%). Risk of poverty of elderly people has decreased (4.4% index reduction). The process of the aging of the European society will affect a deterioration of situation of older people. In 2013-2060 in the every European Union country the demographic burden will increase (in average for the EU by 22.7 percentage points and by 2060, there will be only two adults in working age for every one person over the age of 65). As a result of the increase in the number of people in retirement age there will be an increase in the share of pensions in GDP by 2.3 percentage points but the ratio of the average pension paid in the public system in relation to the average wage in the whole economy will be reduced by 19%., The aging of the population in Poland will be deeper than in the EU. In 2060, Poland will be one of the oldest societies of the EU. This will affect the deterioration of the financial situation of Polish pensioners – the ratio of average pension to average earnings in the economy will decrease from 47% in 2010 to 22% in 2060. / Synopsis. W latach 2005-2012, w UE, sytuacja gospodarstw domowych osób w wieku 65 lat i więcej w UE uległa poprawie. W latach 2013-2060, we wszystkich państwach UE wzrośnie wskaźnik obciążenia demograficznego osobami starszymi (średnio w UE o 22,7 pkt. proc. i w 2060 r. na jedną osobę w wieku 65+ będą przypadać 2 osoby w wieku 15-64 lat).
