Abstract

The Internet has been growing significantly and become worldwide within the last several years. Initially, it was a sheer research and scientific tool, only to be become a mass communication medium. Irrespective of place and time, Internet reaches all who have access to it. Everyone may broadcast information, may post whatever content they deem proper, provided that they do not infringe any provisions of laws. Therefore, the Internet has become the most universal medium that ever existed. Furthermore, it seems that the Internet is the least expensive and the most global marketing tool, which is used by various social and professional groups. Having a website that is targeted at a very specific geographic area may bring lots of profits: one may promote a given region, attract tourists (direct contribution to the wealth of a municipality, poviat, province and the state), and encourage businesses to invest in such a region. All this activities will eventually lead to cash inflow. In consequence, relatively modest outlays may help them to reach a broad audience. The author hereof conducted the analysis of websites hosted by the Lubuskie province municipalities in terms of: 1. ability to use websites to promote their respective regions, 2. ability to share the content that is aimed at increasing tourism 3. ability to encourage businesses to invest in a given area.
