Abstract

The paper presents the changes in Polish foreign trade of fruits and their preserves in the years 2004-2014. Export and import of fruits and their products during the period fluctuated, ie. after periods of growth followed by declines. Export and import of fruits and their products in the period increased, the more their growth was observed in terms of value. In the structure of exports of fresh fruits dominated by apples, processed and frozen concentrated juices, mainly apple juice. The main recipient of Polish fruits of their preparations were EU countries, including the EU-15. In the structure of imports of fresh bananas dominated, and in the import of processed fruit juices concentrated. The main suppliers were the EU countries, mainly Germany, Spain and Italy. The introduction of the embargo by the Russian Federation on 1 August 2014 resulted in a decline in exports of fresh fruit in terms of volume and value, mainly apples. Extension of the embargo for manufacturers will mean continued problems with selling products. The embargo should speed up structural changes in the fruit and vegetable market, changes in the structure of Polish varietal fruit and vegetables, as well as the consolidation processes in the Polish fruit and vegetable sector.
