Abstract

The aim of the paper was to define geographic scope of the butter market using Elzinga-Hogarty test. For practical use of this method author made three assumptions: 1) for butter products was classified according to the customs nomenclature code 040510; 2) starting point of the analysis was Poland market; 3) LOFI i LIFO tests were established at the level of 90%. The article uses secondary data on butter: production, import, export and population of countries collected by FAO for 2013, as well as data on the consumption of butter from CDIC reports on global consumption of dairy products. Results of the research allow the author to define butter market as a semi-global market which consists of Poland area and 8 other countries in the Europe. Such market has production of 1.66 billion kg, consumption of 1.64 billion kg and small import at the level of 0,13 billion kg as well as small exports at the level of 0.17 billion kg.
