Abstract

The aim of the paper was to examine the economic constraints of protein safety in Poland. In implementing this objective the available results of research concerning the domestic market for protein crops were used. Additionally, the comparative account profitability of native protein crops production was conducted, having regard to the data on the amount of the financial contribution to the cultivation of native plants. Moreover, the costs of production for pig feed using soybean meal and protein derived from indigenous sources were compared. It was found that despite the satisfactory profitability of production of native legumes and lower cost to produce 1 kg of protein compared to post-extraction soya meal, there is no entity participating in the feed market which is interested in the development of the market of these plants. Therefore, this market requires both active animating the turnover as well as support from the state which, through the creation of a national intentional indicator, will oblige national fodder factories to use protein derived from native legumes.
