Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine changes in the level of consumption of certified seed of cereals in Poland in the years 2000-2014 and to determine if there is convergence of level of consumption of certified seeds by provinces in Poland. The analysis covered the period 2004-2014 and statistical data of CSO of Poland were used. It was found that the level of consumption of certified seed of cereals in agriculture in Poland has remained at level of about 170 thousand tonnes per year and per 1 ha of cereals production it is level of 30 kg. The diversity of use of the certified seeds between the regions ranged from 10 to 70 kg/ha, and for particular species it was from 14 kg per hectare for rye to 50 kg/ha for spring wheat. For the level of consumption of certified seed the existence of beta convergence and sigma convergence were found for regions, but these relations were not statistically significant. Only in the case of spring wheat and spring barley there were found beta convergence, and for oats and triticale beta divergence occurred. In Poland, still maintains a strong regional differences in the level of consumption of certified seed.
