Abstract

Contemporary Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture (UPA) is gaining worldwide and national prominence as it reassures itself as a permanent factor in people and society sustainable development processes. In Campinas, the Municipal Chamber and Executive have, through municipal legislation and regulation of the Community Vegetal-gardens Program of Campinas (CVP), signaled the intention of bringing to the political agenda, the urban agriculture issue, since 1997. In such a context, the objective of this work is to analyze the CVP, specifically concerning to the aspect of the management, thus subsiding possible reformulation of public policies of UPA in the municipality. The data used was obtained through exploratory analysis and interviews during 2005 with the participation of the program managers, besides documental sources. The analysis concluded that there is an almost total disconnection between the CVP, education, health and social action policies.
