Abstract

----- Among the activities of agribusiness, the goat and sheep industry is relevant, since it has established itself as an economically viable alternative for farmers in rural areas in various regions of Brazil. In this context, the Northeast region of Brazil has great potential for exploitation of this activity. However, it faces several obstacles that limit its development. This study aimed to analyze the potential effect of the transfer of knowledge of biotechnological processes of Research and Development Institutes (R & D) for the agents of the productive chain of the goat and sheep industry from an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of this chain. This research used a qualitative approach. The results show the following strengths: the existence of a large external market for the distribution of products and increased consumption of dairy products. The results indicated the breaking of the chain as the main obstacle to the activity and emphasized the importance of information transfer along the supply chain, especially regarding the knowledge obtained through scientific research in order to develop and deliver new technologies in the areas of management, animal health, production and animal breeding.
