Abstract

Less developed countries and international economy: topics in économie rurale, 1949-1999 - During the last 50 years, what has been the role of the economic journal of the French Society for Rural Economics in the debates related to Less Developed Countries and -more generally- international agricultural economics ? This question gives us the opportunity of reviewing all the research streams and quoting the authors. The main themes are: development project analysis, heterodox methods for economic analysis, rural intervention, agrarian and farming systems approaches, participatory research, commodity chain analysis, economic modelling of agriculture, globalization. The journal has never been the main medium for expression of the specialists of these research areas, but it is playing nowadays an increasing role and it has always expressed all what can be considered as a kind of specif icity of the French schools in agricultural economics.
