La préretraite en agriculture 1992-1994. Premier bilan et éléments d'impact structurel

Abstract

The early retirement policy was implemented in France in 1992 for a three-years period and was included in the accompanying measures of the cap reform. This paper presents the first results of this policy and some elements for an assessment of its structural impact. About 40 000 farmers (from 55 to 59 years old) benefit by the measure and released about 1 300 000 ha that were used mainly by young holders to enlarge their farm. The early retirement policy has made easier the adaptation of the French agriculture to the CAP reform but it could lead to a strong reduction of the land market during next years.
