Abstract

Each farmer decides what type of farming system will be suitable, according to his own targets and constraints, but this choice largely depends on comparative scarcity of inputs as land, labor, and capital. The economic growth modified the ratios between this different inputs. In agriculture the productivity of land grew less important than the labor's one. But the ratio between land and labor yet presents large differences among countries, regions and types of farms. The major point of CAP'S revision lies on supply control in such a way to avoid a drastic reduction of agricultural area. So it's necessary to find sustainable farming systems which would be able to use more land, but less capital and/or labor per acre. Enlargement of farm's size is an opportunity, but financial grants will be necessary and a special effort has to be made to move research work towards new targets.
