Les transferts intéressant l'agriculture, une vue d'ensemble

Author

  • Bergmann, Denis

Abstract

Introductary paper for a conference on transfers to and from agriculture. Four concepts must be distinguished : the agricultural branch, farmer's households, rural areas, the agri-business complex. Many of the traditional arguments used in defense of agricultural support have lost their justification ; several economic arguments remain however valid. An analysis of some of the major transfers shows that knowledge about their magnitude and impact is inadequate ; more research would be justified.
