Abstract

Negociated prices between manufacturers and food distribution, are not the result of pure competitive forces, but of bi-lateral exchanges which have little transparency. The price discovery mechanism is therefore imperfect and generates a far from optimal allocation of ressources. There is expensive discriminations, as shown by the broad price constellation under which the same product is sold to different distributors, and among different manufacturers.
