Abstract

In the first part of this paper we bring up an overview of disparities in French agriculture at the regional level (the regional unit is in fact the department). We propose to classify them according to two factors. The first is concerned with the representative type of farming and the second is related to the general level of development. In the second part we use econometric analysis to explain agricultural incomes (defined as gross value added by standard man day) through a set of variables : land use, livestock, deadstock and the share of agriculture in active population. In the third part we discuss with some details the discrepancies beetween (observed) value added and (adjusted) value added using the model. Then we emphasize on the limitations of this approach.
