Perturbations écologiques produites par l'agriculture industrielle

Abstract

Modem farming technology has perturbed the energy flow and has broken up the cycle of matter in agro-ecosystems. Considerable ecological disorder has resulted from this in the form for example, of a dangerous eutrophization of lakes. In certain cases even bio-geochemical cycles like those of nitrogene or phosphorus can be perturbed globally. Moreover the pollution of the environment by insecticides and certain chemical fertilizers has given rise to biological balances being upset and may well jeopardize the productive potential of the soil. Finally certain insecticides such as organicchalogenous compounds since they are not biodegradable have given rise to a total contamination of the biosphere and as a consequence the rarefaction of certain species of animals even though they live in remote zones far from human activity.
