Les agriculteurs français face à l'élargissement de la CEE vers le Sud

Abstract

Europe, now it has lost many of the illusions that have hindered its development and its suffering from the world economic crisis, is going through a critical period. Its Mediterranean regions may well be concerned about the prospect of the EEC admitting neighbouring Southern European countries, all the more so that these regions have reaped fewer advantages than others from the growth that has marked the first twenty years of the Rome Treaty. If the EEC were to admit these countries without due precautions, this would make French farming and the French economy run a grave risk that should not be taken. For the Community such an operation might well be fatal. The aim of the farming sector in this report — which was conceived as a positive contribution to the solution of a difficult problem for our country and a major problem for all the Mediterranean countries — is to explain these risks clearly and to indicate the means by which they may be avoided.
