Abstract

Farms structures and technical progress : Two communes in the french department of Manche : Morsalines and Crasville - These two small communes in Cotentin, next to each other and quite different though, are both loaded with a heavy historic inheritance : their obsolete structures and their traditional ultra-conservatism do not allow any alteration in such a way of life that still ignores capitalism. The « individualism of the Bocage », more over, adds to agricultural problems. Tractors have brought no major modification. Market-gardening... stock-farming? In any case, the choices will compulsorily lead to modify land structures. Rrom now on, Morsalines and Crasville are meant to belong to a « Rural renovation Zone » : it appears that only a State decision might be able to shake the « vis inertiae » of Morsalines ond Crasville.
