Abstract

The competitiveness of the agricultural and food industries in Britain in relation to those on the continent - We miss data to be able to compare Agricultures and agricultural and Food industries of each side of the Channel. However British Farming is proving as much efficient, sometimes even more, as that of the Community of Six, speaking of average outputs, structures of farming, the number in livestock and the productivity of hard labour. The potentiabities of British IAA is far superior to the average of Common Market members as far as marketing, research and development of new products are concerned. Nevertheless, the presence of U.K. in an enlarged Community might bring no real profit to british farmers. Trade between members countries may be reduced to a few secondary transactions because of the extra-production in most of them. Besides, will the European consumer appreciate foodstuff from British Food industries ? In a negative occurence, the industries will then attempt to export more assets and maybe their own experience of marketing and management as well.
