Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the advantages to the state of an accelerated modernization of farms. This by introducing a policy encouraging the increase in farm size and the departure of the population, the farmer leaving the land are enabled to contribute towards greater added value in other branches of the economy, while agricultural enterpizes can obtain an increase in the efficiency of invested capital and reduce the consumption of production factors. This increase in productivity requires the collectivity to make an effort to improve the reception of migrants, professional training and the finding of employment but the estimations made for the 1970-85 period show that the balance sheet for the whole is very favourable. It should therefore be possible, adthough the study has not touched on this point, to introduce measures which would make this modrenization of agricultural structures advantageous both the farmer and the tax payer.
