Abstract

In Poland agriculture occupies an important place in the economy. The coexistence of state owred farms, cooperatives ond private farms complicates the management of agricultural production. In order to influence, and not direct, agricultural economy, the national plan works on the level of prices, contracts, investments. Price information is not sufficiently effective. The contract system which is highly developed in Poland, guarantees the disposal of products. By provinding selected means of production (seeds, chickens...) and by technical assistance given to the farmers, the firms delivering under contract make a considerable contribution to the modernisation of methods and the diffusion of progress. Contracts may be criticized for their cost and for a certain rigidity in exchanges. The contact system which has become less useful in its present form because of the technical level reached by Polish farms, will have to adapt itself to remain efficient.
