Abstract

« The Frenchf seem to be like those so-called elementary bodies in which modern chemistry disco vers new separable; particles when ; examining them more closely », wrote Tocqueville. The remark is equally right for farmers: « Farmers » is a lazy expre ssion to disign a social class, often considered as homogeneous, although it is not so. This is the reason why We have tried for several years to set up a new classification of the farmers which reveals the social groups and shows their roles in French agricultural economics.. Here M. Sébillotte explains with competence and prudence how he has set up an « outline of an economic classification of farms ». In the review Projet, We comment on the « categories of farms in France. » Jean Chombart de Lauwe.
