Paysans et nouveaux villages en Algérie

Abstract

A sociological analysis based on case-studies of three «new villages» created during the agrarian revolution. The setting up of those villages involves groups and institutions which are quite far from the rural people directly concerned. Technical norms for the settlement are neither produced nor controled by rural people. However if civil servants have much to say on the base plans for the new villages and on their location actual implementation and selection of settlers depend largely on local elected council members.
