Abstract

The aim of this paper is to deliver an original analysis of the economic value of a beach by applying the travel-cost method to different Mediterranean and Atlantic coast beaches in France. An original database was built through field research conducted in the summer of 2019. The results show that individual attributes, tourists’ behavior, and travel costs are the main determinants of the economic value of a beach. The results also show that the Mediterranean beaches have a lower value than those of the Atlantic coast, but also that the disparities in the values of the Mediterranean beaches are greater.
