Analyse multi-niveaux des freins à l’adoption de la certification du cacao au Cameroun

Abstract

European requirements on the quality of cocoa lead to the development of certification, to improve the production and post-harvest management of the beans. However, certification remains underdeveloped in Cameroon. This article mobilizes the sociotechnical transition model to analyze the determinants of certification adoption. Interviews with 11 players in the cocoa sector were conducted, as well as a survey of 90 producers. The results highlight the incompleteness of the system involved in certification, which results in its poor dissemination. This trend is accentuated by the absence of a price differential for producers between certified cocoa and ordinary cocoa. The conclusion questions the ability of certification standards to transform the cocoa sector.
