Abstract

The paper aims to exam the Brazilian Textile Industry evolution process in the1990’s. It analyses the specific conditions of Brazilian commercial opening andthe intensification of the technological innovation. From statistical information itverifies the impacts of these events on the structure, conduct and performance ofthe industry. The results show that the impacts of the commercial opening onthis sector was more intense than in other industrial sectors what lead to anintense concentration movement in the period and to relevant implication onlabor productiveness. The conclusions stress the present favorable perspectivesof the Brazilian Textile Industry as to international competitiveness, restricted byspecific public policies support and by investments intensification.
