Trade Opening And Decentralization Of Brazilian Metropolises And Capital Cities

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of spacial location of eco-nomic activity to the non-metropolitan areas from Brazil through the role oflabor market (employment growth level). It will be shown that the tradeopeness of the economy contributed to the new location of economic acti-vity. It is know as expulsion process from the metropolitan areas and attrac-tion to the non-metropolitan areas. Thus, the old clusters of the greatest Bra-zilian cities are broken, and new growth poles and economic clusters arecreated inside the country. In that way, the strategic location decision of firmschanges and new opportunities related to the external trade can be explored.
