Abstract

The institutional fabric of a country is a key determinant of whether many investments will succeed or fail, especially in the long run. Yet weak institutions may at times look strong, and inefficient systems may at times seem highly efficient. For this reason, it is important that development financiers are equipped with the tools for identifying and managing institutional risk.
