The evolution of development finance and role of chartered development finance analysts

Abstract

The growth and impact of development finance institutions (DFIs) have been phenomenal over the last 30 years. Central to this growth is the realisation that private sector lenders, on their own, cannot adequately cater for the needs of all lenders and borrowers and, as a result, they tend to avoid funding risky individuals, projects or institutions. DFIs, on the other hand, tend take on more risk in the lending approach. To ensure that DFIs are sustainably viable requires education, training and innovative research. Development or sustainable finance education is also massively on the rise globally.
