Monetary policy effectiveness in non-WAEMU countries

Abstract

There are ongoing discussions regarding the effectiveness of monetary policy in both advanced and emerging economies, as emphasized in a recent literature review by Sedegah and Odhiambo (2021). Moreover, there is agreement in the extant literature that while concerns about the effectiveness of monetary policy are evident globally, these issues are more pronounced in developing nations like those in Africa, where the banking infrastructure is relatively underdeveloped (Asongu, 2016; Starr, 2005). This viewpoint is further reinforced by the consensus that the effectiveness of monetary policy continues to be a topic of debate, particularly in the least developed countries (Sedegah et al., 2024; Bhaduri & Durai, 2012; Nogueira, 2009).
