Abstract

In this short note, we provide some basis of potential effects of the global pandemic of COVID19 on business lines. We provide some potential financial risks that are likely to emerge from COVID19. We also provide some risk management tools that can potentially be used. We did this by providing what risk management experts-actuaries can do in support of the quants. We present our discussion in sections: nonbanking sector, banking (financial) sector and macro-economic level. Among the identified effects, are the liquidity challenges of investment assets within financial markets, which are mostly detrimental to potential and existing investors. This is more likely in emerging economies like South Africa. Relatedly, the slow-downs and retarded economic activities are with some devastating effects on both micro and macro variables such as inflation, interest rates and unemployment. We discuss all these and other related effects in detail
