Abstract

Cet article s'interroge sur les raisons et les moyens par lesquels la plus ancienne activité économique du Brésil contemporain a réussi à se maintenir au centre de son développement depuis le xvl[e] siècle jusqu'à nos jours. En prenant comme hypothèse centrale l'appui de l'État qui ne lui a jamais fait défaut, nous examinons à partir de nos propres travaux les principaux aspects de la croissance de l'agro-industrie de la canne à sucre au cours du XX[e] siècle.
