Les enjeux économiques du développement durable : le cas des pêcheries

Abstract

I investigate two polar cases in fisheries management (open access vs. private ownership) and investigate to what extent they are compatible with sustainable development. I conclude that they are not, and that there is a strong case for government intervention. Unfortunately, at the present time, such intervention takes the form of subsidies, so that it goes in the wrong direction and exacerbates existing problems.
