Public Awareness, Concerns and Perceptions about Anthropogenic Impacts and Climate Change in Ranganadi River Basin, Arunachal Pradesh, India

Abstract

People’s perception and response to climate change at local community level endorse insight into impact of climate change at local level in a remote Himalayan region of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The study presents the local community’s (Nyishi tribe) perception and understanding about the various anthropogenic factors responsible for climate change in the Ranganadi basin of Arunachal Pradesh. Through the mixed research methods, the people’s perception study was conducted by collecting information from 400 respondents living in 24 villages. Among the anthropogenic impacts in the basin deforestation, shifting agriculture, land use change etc. are the major as informed by the respondents from local community.
