The Estimation of Prospects of Development of the Tourist Destination of Saint-Petersburg

Abstract

The paper estimates the prospects of the development of modern tourist destination in St. Petersburg. Methodology assessment served as a well-known tool in strategic management the SWOT-analysis. The analysis identified the strengths and weaknesses of the tourist destination of St. Petersburg, its opportunities and threats. The strong points include a unique cultural authenticity of St. Petersburg related to the high concentration of objects of the world cultural heritage, as well as the creation of new cultural and entertainment facilities and events. The weak sides of St. Petersburg as a tourist center is - complicated visa procedures, underdeveloped tourist infrastructure of the city, the high cost of tourism services, poor promotion of the tourism brand of Saint-Petersburg in Europe, America and Asia, the low level of hotel service, the deficit and high cost locations tourist accommodation. The continued sanctions pressure on Russia from Western countries, reducing the value of the architectural appearance of the city as a result of the loss of the monuments, the sealing of building, implementing major projects, changing views of the historic center and the concentration in St. Petersburg in the high season of administrative and conventions created for tourists uncomfortable conditions form a threat to the development of the tourist destination of St. Petersburg. In turn, the devaluation of the ruble and the associated reduction in the cost of the tourist product in foreign currency and the reorientation of the Russian outbound travel to the inner form of the possibility of a tourist destination of St. Petersburg. Following an article in the SWOT-analysis were formulated management recommendations focused on the subject of management of St. Petersburg tourist complex - the authorized bodies of executive power of St. Petersburg.
