The Rural-Center Relationship in the Frame of the Indicators Related to Taxation in the Ottoman Empire in the 18th Century: the Example of Konya

Abstract

In this study, financial relations between the central and provincial is discussed in the context of Konya Sanjak in Ottoman Empire. Konya is the pahsa sanjak of Karaman province in Ottoman period. Also Konya is an important location in the Ottoman trade network. Konya, with population, artisan group, foundations, vassalage, mukataas, their relationship with the central government and with collected vassalage income and taxes, is an important settlement in XVIII. century. The aim of the study is to examine Ottoman provincial finance structure and relations with the central finance in private of Konya in the XVIII. century. In this direct, firsthand the various archival sources are tried to obtain, but the inability to find regular data for each year limits the work.
