Abstract

The interest to interest-free banking has been increasing due to the increasing importance in terms of countries and economies. Parallel to this trend, the interest and the demand to the interest free banking in Turkey has been also increasing. While the number of the financial institutions, providing interest free banking services, has been increasing on one side, interest free banking products and services has been also diversifying on another side. For this reason, an increase has been seen in the academic studies regarding interest free banking in recent years. The study was prepared in order to examine master and doctoral theses published in interest free banking in Turkey for the period 1986-2017. Within the scope of the study, 20 doctoral theses and 131 master theses were analyzed. According to the findings of the study, they are determined that theses regarding interest free banking is limited in comparison with many areas such as banking and capital markets, 52.12% of them are published in banking, 15.89% of them are published in Marmara University, 13.90% of them are published in English, 50.99% of them are supervised by Professors and 49.01% of them are prepared by descriptive statistics method. Also, it is evaluated as remarkable that there are studies regarding interest free banking in only 57 universities although there are 186 universities in Turkey.
