The Ottoman Empire's Financial Integration with Europe: 1800-1914

Abstract

The nineteenth century was a period of greater integration of the Ottoman Empire into the European economy and financial sys- tem. The increasing of foreign trade volume with European countries, the resorting to European financial markets for external borrowing and the increasing of direct foreign investments of European capital in the Ottoman Empire were accelerated the financial integration process of Ottoman Empire with European, and caused the develop- ing of modern banking and capital markets in Ottoman Empire.
