The Importance and Supervision of Credit Rating Agencies

Abstract

The credit rating agencies have more than 150 years history in financial markets. In last decade and even since the subprime crisis erupted last year, there has been an extensive argument about more than benefits, the role of credit rating agencies in exacerbat- ing the global financial crisis which has a cost of trillion Dollars. Due to the role played by credit rating agencies significantly to the current problems in the financial markets, EU and the US governments decide to rebuild supervision and regulation activities for re- storing the market confidence. With this context determination of current situation and adaptation issues of the credit rating market in Turkey and all over the World are the main purposes of this article.
