Présence syndicale et performance financière des entreprises:une analyse statistique sur le cas français

Abstract

(VF)Cet article expose les principaux résultats d’une étude consacrée au lien entre la présence syndicale et la performance économique et financière des entreprises en France. À partir d’un échantillon de 2 831 établissements français du secteur privé, issu de l’enquête REPONSE 1998 (Relations Professionnelles et Négociations d’Entreprise), une investigation de nature quantitative a été menée. Les résultats des analyses statistiques montrent que la présence syndicale n’affecte pas la performance financière, quel que soit le type d’implantation syndicale, contestant ainsi les conclusions des études anglo-saxonnes. Ce constat peut s’expliquer par les caractéristiques du contexte des relations professionnelles en France. (VA) Using data from a nationally representative survey (1998 REPONSE survey), we examine the relationship between the presence of trade unions and corporate financial performance in the French context. The findings suggest that trade union presence has no impact on financial performance. Furthermore, no significant union rent was evident even when the workplace faced few or no competitors in their main product market. The earlier US and UK literature found unions had a negative impact on financial performance. Our results are different and most likely reflect the specificity of French industrial relations.
