Efecto de los cultivos de coca sobre el mercado laboral formal en los municipios de Colombia

Abstract

En este trabajo se estudia empíricamente el efecto de la presencia de cultivos de coca sobre el mercado laboral formal en los municipios de Colombia para el periodo 2010-2016. Para medir el mercado laboral formal se utiliza la proporción de personas ocupadas formalmente con respecto a la población total de cada municipio. Se encuentra que un aumento en una desviación estándar en la proporción de hectáreas cultivadas con coca en un municipio reduce en 0,004 desviaciones estándar la proporción de personas ocupadas formalmente con respecto a la población total. Este resultado es robusto a diferentes especificaciones econométricas, que incluyen las introducción de varios tipos de efectos fijos, de controles, y al uso de variables instrumentales. Los resultados son consistentes con la hipótesis de que el empleo en cultivos ilícitos es informal y este empleo es sustituto del empleo formal. Esta explicación es consistente con otros trabajos relacionados y con evidencia anecdótica.
