Der Wandel des Buchhandels durch Digitalisierung und Internet

Abstract

Das Internet und die Digitalisierung stellen den Buchsektor seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre vor große Herausforderungen. Dabei lassen sich mit dem Online-Buchhandel, digitalen Zusatzprodukten und dem Auftreten marktfähiger Technologie-Sets zur Substitution des gedruckten Buches drei Wirkungsbereiche der neuen Technologien ausmachen. Das Buch braucht den klassischen Buchhandel nicht mehr zwangsläufig, um seine Leser zu erreichen, Inhalte müssen nicht mehr unbedingt auf physischen Medien erworben werden und Kopierschutzverfahren werden nun auch für den Buchsektor relevant. Im vorliegenden Papier wird anhand von aggregierten Marktdaten ein konzentrierter Überblick zu den bisherigen Verschiebungen in diesen Bereichen gegeben und eine erste Bewertung vorgenommen. Deutlich wird dabei, dass das Eingriffspotential der Digitaltechnologien bezogen auf den Buchhandel ebenso hoch bewertet werden kann wie im Falle der Musikindustrie. Allerdings scheinen die entsprechenden Verschiebungen zeitlich erheblich entzerrter abzulaufen.
